What is the Shahada?

The Islamic profession of faith: 'There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.' Reciting this with sincere intention is the formal requirement for becoming a Muslim.
Explanation
It is the first of the Five Pillars of Islam and underscores the absolute oneness of God (Tawhid) and the finality of Muhammad's prophethood.
